Tasawwuf

وَلَذِكْرُ اللَّهِ أَكْبَرُ

wa-la-dḫikru-llāhi ʾakbar

and the remembrance of Allāh is the greatest!

(Sūrata-l-Añkabūt 29:45)

قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَن زَكَّاهَا • وَقَدْ خَابَ مَن دَسَّاهَا

qadå ʾaflaḥa man zakkāhā • wa qadå kḫāba man dassāhā

Successful is the one who purifies it [the soul]. • And failed is the one who buries it [in sins].

(Sūratu-sḥ-Sḥams 91:9-10)

The Taṣawwuf section contains a collection of essays and books related to spirituality and taṣawwuf (sufism).

The books in Spiritual Travel collection encourage readers to feel and pursue the breaths of Divine inspiration that we all feel from time to time. ʿAllahmah Ṭabāṭābaʾī states in his Stages of A Spiritual Journey: “In your life you get some pleasant breaths from your Lord. Make a point of being benefited by them and do not turn away from them.”

The Spiritual Practices collection contains various prescriptions for how to nourish the spiritual longing and well-being. The section includes books that discuss specific practices, such as dḫikr, recital of the Qurʾān, invocations of the Names of Allāh, etc., that are performed by and/or prescribed for spiritual seekers. Specific texts and guides for practices may be found throughout this site: litanies in Orisons & Origins, supplications in ʾAdʿiyah and sections of the Qurʾān on the Qurʾān page.

You can find more books and essays on the topic of spirituality in the Essays in Series page.
